What licence do I need to ride a scooter or a motorcycle?
If your looking to get yourself 2 wheels then here are your basic licensing requirements:
If you are 16 years old or over.
- You will need a provisional licencse, this is easy to obtain, you simply fill out a DVLA form, this can be done on line and it will cost you around £50. Your provisional license will usually arive within a month.
- Complete a CBT course, CBT's can be booked nationwide and are usualy valid for 24months.
- You can ride a 50cc scooter, with L-plates and no passengers.
If you are 17 years old or over and have a full car licence.
- You will need a provisional licencse, this is easy to obtain, you simply fill out a DVLA form, this can be done on line and it will cost you around £50. Your provisional license will usually arive within a month.
- Complete a CBT course, CBT's can be booked nationwide and are usualy valid for 24months.
- You can ride a 125cc scooter or motorbike, with L-plates and no passengers.
If you have a full car licence (issued before 1st February 2001)
- You can ride ride any 50cc without L-plates and carry passengers.
- To ride up to a 125cc you must first complete a CBT course (valid for 2 years). You must display L plates and not carry passengers.
